Bede's World a hit on iTunes
The medieval world of the famous monk, The Venerable Bede, has been brought to an even wider audience thanks to the work of a Newcastle-based podcast production company. Thousands of people have been downloading two podcasts from iTunes specifically created for Bede’s World Visitor Centre by Podcast Digital, making it a hit in the online music store’s podcast History section. The podcasts, which use voice-overs from professional storyteller Adam Bushnell and local school children, have been declared a success by all involved in the project.
Pearl Saddington, Marketing Manager of Bede’s World, said: “We wanted to use new media like podcasting to communicate the attractions and history of the Bede’s World site. We were also keen to involve local children since we support several young peoples projects and value the input of local people. Users from all over the UK and beyond have been downloading the podcast from iTunes and we now hope that many of them will be visiting our site in Jarrow, Northumberland.”
Steve Bainbridge, MD of Podcast Digital, sais: “The podcasts were really a way of promoting the museum to a wider audience. We wanted to reach a large number of potential visitors and also communicate some of the exciting attractions of the site. The podcast brings together all kinds of media for the farm tour including photography, graphic design, voice, music, web-links and text information. “We hope that people will download the podcast or mp3 audio tour to their mobile devices likes iPods and mp3 players and use them on-site. Podcasting has proved an ideal way of capturing the various features of the site and communicating them.”
