Tyne and Wear Metro hits new records, on time
The Tyne and Wear Metro is on course to give passengers the best performance by a train company in mainland Britain. The service has set new records for punctuality in the last four months, latest figures show.
Since April this year, 96.29% of trains have run within three minutes of their timetable – the target Metro uses to test whether a train is ‘on time’, resulting in the highest level of punctuality since figures were first recorded. It is a particularly impressive feat as Metro trains run 17,668km every weekday serving 59 stations – far more than most train operators.
Mick Carbro, Metro Director, said: “We set ourselves the toughest targets there are on punctuality but we are still on course to give our customers more trains running on time than anywhere else in mainland Britain.
“It means more than 19 out of 20 trains are on time. Even when they are not, the frequent service Metro provides means a train is often just a few minutes away.”
