Keeping Jesmond in the Picture

Residents in Jesmond are being invited to a public consultation event to see plans being put forward for the Jesmond Picture House which has fallen into a derelict state. The building, located opposite Jesmond Metro Station on Lyndhurst Avenue, has been closed for a number of years.

The building was acquired last year by local property investors, The MK Partnership, and plans have begun to remove what has become an eyesore in the area which will involve local residents in the future plans for the site. Ideas will be unveiled at a public consultation event to be held on Saturday 4 August and Sunday 5 August from 2pm to 4pm at The Caledonian Hotel on Osborne Road, Jesmond.

Jason Wall, partner at property consultants Knight Frank, said: “As established and respected investors, The MK Partnership are committed to responsibly creating a development which takes into account the needs and character of the local area. This building has been allowed to totally degenerate and something must now be done. The partners of The MK Partnership have had ties to Jesmond for over thirty five years. They have a vested interest in Jesmond and care about the area. They plan to retain their investment for the long term and, with that objective, are planning to create a sustainable project to replace what has become an increasingly unsightly building and wasted resource.”
