Corporates go Mad with local tribes

A North East based company specialising in helping people make the most of gap year experiences is celebrating its 10th anniversary by linking the region with communities in Ghana. Madventurer founder John Lawler has decided to mark the occasion than by giving something back to the place that made him an honorary African Chief.

In recognition of his contribution to the village in which he taught on his own gap year, John was made a chief. His experience led him to form Madventurer, offering community development projects, placements and adventures worldwide.

For the 10 year anniversary John wants to pair up 10 schools or community groups from the North East of England with 10 schools or community groups in Ghana in order for 10 projects to be successfully carried out in the country. John is looking to the business community to think about their Corporate Social Responsibility and to help support this local educational initiative.

John said: “This is a great opportunity for schools and communities in the North East to learn about African culture and assist directly with real life development which will really make a difference overseas. It will mean that Ghanaian schools and communities will benefit greatly from the generosity of these partnering schools and communities, and the UK groups can have a chance to actively learn from their counterparts about issues affecting each other such as education and climate change. It will be win win.”
