Olympic dating agency for North East business
A ‘business dating agency’ has been launched this week to help companies based in the North East compete for business opportunities helping deliver the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The ‘London 2012 Business Network’, found at www.london2012.com/business, will help companies in the North East compete for London 2012 supply chain contracts.
Over 300 companies in the North East have registered to receive e-alerts about London 2012 procurement opportunities. Even in these early stages, when only a small proportion of contracts have been issued, four companies or organisations based in the North East have supplied the ODA.
The new ‘CompeteFor’ service will match companies to thousands of opportunities supplying London 2012 contractors. Up to a fifth of London 2012 supply chain opportunities are expected to go through the CompeteFor system. The system will also link companies with local Business Link services.
Tim Cantle-Jones, Chairman of the North East Regional Sports Board, said: “London 2012 will create unprecedented economic, sporting and cultural opportunities across the UK and ‘CompeteFor’ provides North East firms with a unique opportunity to get involved in the UK’s greatest ever sporting event.”
Stacy Hall, Director of Communications and Tourism at One NorthEast, said: “It is fantastic that businesses throughout the North East will be given the opportunity to tap into lucrative London 2012 business. CompeteFor is a free service and by simply registering details on the website, businesses will be opening the door to opportunities throughout the London 2012 supply chain, giving companies the chance to showcase their skills and expertise on an international stage and potentially win substantial new business.”
