Berghaus able to weather any storm

An IT service provider and consultancy based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) has won a contract to provide Berghaus with a business continuity service.

CAT42 will supply the outdoor clothing and equipment specialist with everything it needs to continue day-to-day activities within 15 minutes should their own international headquarters, based in Sunderland, become unavailable.

Colin Turnbull, CAT42 General Manager, said: “Leading companies like Berghaus are paving the way for all businesses, as continuity provisions become more and more common in the marketplace. It is only a matter of time before this type of arrangement will make up an essential element of any business looking to become part of a successful supply chain.”

Berghaus was founded in 1966, initially as an importer and distributor of outdoor products, based in the LD Mountain Centre in Newcastle. In 1972 the company began designing and manufacturing its own products, and quickly became established as a leading innovator in the sector in Europe.

Carol Averre, Facilities Manager for Berghaus, said: “The Berghaus headquarters in Sunderland is the hub of a dynamic global organisation, some part of which is active every hour of every day. A disruption in operations here has the potential to cause significant harm to the company, so we take business continuity planning very seriously.

“I am delighted that in CAT42 we have found an ideal partner on our doorstep. The team there has helped us to develop comprehensive disaster recovery arrangements and has an excellent facility close at hand. Of course, I hope that we never have to use it, but it is very reassuring to know that it is there for us.”
