tadea: a decade at the top
tadea, the Billingham-based sustainability organisation, has marked its tenth anniversary year by opening new premises and securing a host of new contracts.
Throughout the course of 2012, the not-for-profit company, which offers a wide range of services in the areas of energy efficiency, scheme management and carbon reduction ,managed to extend its reach from the North East region, Cumbria and Lancashire south to Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.
In June, tadea secured the contract to renew Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for Nottinghamshire Council’s schools and public buildings – which will see around 265 properties assessed over a 12-month period.
Display Energy Certificates show the actual energy performance of a building based onits energy consumption as recorded for gas, electricity and other fuels and inform visitors about the energy use of public buildings by highlighting their energy rating. DECs must be renewed every year and are accompanied by an Advisory Report that outlines measures which improve the energy efficiency of the building.
The Nottinghamshire Council contract success was followed by another in October, when tadea secured work delivering DECs for buildings in the York area on behalf of the Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust. The delivery of these DECs builds on tadea’s previous work in the health sector, coming on the back of services provided for NHS North of Tyne and Northumberland Tyne and Wear Foundation Trust.
In addition to the DEC work carried out in Yorkshire, tadea also opened up a new office in Huddersfield – complementing its other premises in Billingham, Newcastle and Carlisle.
Staff members in the new office are currently working with Calderdale Council on a potential Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP)/Energy Company Obligation (ECO) projectin central Halifax.

tadea’s preparations have seen the organisation gear up to deliver services in line with the Government’s Green Deal programme and also get ready ahead of a change in Display Energy Certificate legislation which is due to come into effect in January 2013.
Alan Jones adds: “This legislative change will mean that, as of the start of next year, many more buildings will require these Display Energy Certificates and, thanks to our experienceand our reputation, we’re in a great position to pick up new contracts in this area.
“We’ve also been helping organisations across the region through our energy audits and employee engagement services, which are helping businesses to improve their energy efficiency and cut running costs – something which is becoming ever more pertinent as fuel prices rise and companies look to give themselves a competitive edge in any way they can.”
