Finalist start-up companies shorlisted for Thinking Digital competition
The final ten start-up companies shortlisted to win the Thinking Digital competition have been named.
The ten startups will compete before an expert panel of judges and a live audience at the Thinking Digital Startups Competition on 21st May at Newcastle Business School.
The audience and judges will pick the top two startups to pitch before the full audience at the Thinking Digital Conference.
Dr Richard Exley and Dr Stephen Price from Northstar Venturese, Paul Smith from ignite100 and Paul Lancaster from Sage One UK selected the shortlist from the applications received from across the UK and Europe.
Among the final ten is Newcastle start-up, Bubblepix which uses fully immersive 360-degree media called ‘Bubbles’ to create the only instant 360 photo and video connected device on the market.
Omlis Ltd, also from Newcastle, offers digital services to enable customers to access their systems, verify transactions and protect data from their smart phone and Middlesbrough-based Spearhead Interactive develops bespoke online 3D solutions for the business, education and public sector markets.
Chirp, from London presents a new way to share data using sound, broadcasting web links from any device that makes sound and Newcastle’s EarSoft who are developing technology to pave the way for an HD audio revolution.
Also listed is Good NIght Lamp, a London start-up which connects lamps via the internet to allow users to share their routine and presence with their loved ones around the world.
Another London start-up in the final ten is Future Ad Labs which created, ‘PlayCaptcha’ replacing hard-to-read words on on-line forms with mini-games.
LICUOUS from Madrid, is a B2B global payment platform where businesses can reduce their dependence on the banking system to improve their cash-flow management securely and efficiently.
London and Oxford based PointCrowds have been shortlisted for their work in building software to allow people to collectively create 3D models using just cameras.
YPlan, also from London, has created the ultimate London night-out app combining a carefully curated shortlist of top events, gigs and entertainment with a mobile-only event booking app.
All 10 businesses receive free entry to the Thinking Digital Livecast Lounge, a free 12-month license for our easy-to-use, jargon-free Sage One Accounts software and credit for Rackspace hosting.
The top two startups, chosen by the audience and the judges will go on to pitch again at the main Thinking Digital Conference where the audience of up to 500 delegates will choose an overall winner.
Each startup receives a year free of Sage One’s cloud-based software and the top prize will be £20,000 in free services from Rackspace.
The top two also get automatic shortlisting for an invitation to Ignite100 which comes with £100,000 in seed capital. We thank Sage One, Rackspace and Ignite100 for their support of the competition.
Registration to the Startup Competition is £15 and includes a Women in Startups & Technology Discussion Panel and entrance to the Thinking Digital Opening Party.
