North East firms urged to target Brazilian market

North East firms are being urged to target export opportunities in Brazil in a new UKTI initiative.

The ‘Access Brazil’ scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund has been designed to support SMEs to develop international trade in Brazil.

The initiative, which works through information and networking events and organised market visits, is exclusive to the North East and will be delivered by the North East Chamber of Commerce.

Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world, and is designated one of UKTI’s High Growth Markets, it boasts a population of around 200 million people and has one of the world’s most rapidly developing economies.

One of the first events will be a Brazil Seminar, to be held at RTC North, Sunderland on Tuesday (4 June), from 9.45am until noon.

Gareth Moore, HM Consul, British Consul-General for Recife, Brazil will be on hand to offer an introduction to Brazil and an expert insight into doing business in Recife.

Delegates will also be able to find out about the forthcoming Market Visit to Brazil, taking place 23-27 September, which will focus on the cities of Recife and Sao Paolo – both important centres of commerce offering a wide range of opportunities.

Jeff Sanders, one of UKTI’s International Trade Advisers, will be hosting the seminar and will lead the Market Visit to Brazil.

He said: “Brazil as a potential market is simply too big to ignore and Access Brazil has been developed to ensure North East companies can make the most of the opportunities this market offers.

“Our seminar next week gives delegates the opportunity to hear first-hand from one of our experts in the market what those opportunities are and gain an insight into what they can expect when doing business in Brazil.

“The Market Visit later in the year will provide an invaluable chance to explore the market further and meet potential customers, with the added security and support of travelling with an organised group and the back-up of UKTI before, during and after the visit.

“We will be focusing on the cities of Recife and Sao Paolo, both of which offer opportunities for almost every kind of company. There will also be the flexibility for delegates to follow their own business itineraries, supported by UKTI experts all the way.

“I would urge anyone thinking about export to consider Brazil and to join us at the seminar next week to find out more.”
