Housing Minister to address North East businesses

Housing Minister Mark Prisk will visit the North East to address business leaders at the annual North East Economic Forum (NEEF) this month.

The Minister is due to give a keynote address in which he is expected to provide an overview of the Government’s vision for the housing sector and how the development of new housing, together with improvements to existing housing stock, are critical to the region.

Following this he will take part in a panel Q&A that also includes Mark Henderson, chief executive of Home Group; Jo Jamieson, regional managing director of Wates Group and Geoff Woodcock, managing director of Esh Developments.

Hugh Morgan-Williams, chairman of NEEF, commented: “Mr Prisk’s acceptance of our invitation to address the seminar underlines the value of NEEF for the North East in its engagement with government and also demonstrates his willingness, and that of his colleagues, to listen to the views of North East business people.

“This visit is an opportunity to show the Housing Minister much of what we are proud of, what we have achieved and where we are heading, as well as identifying potential barriers to progress.”

Mr Prisk will also open the new Sinclair Meadows eco housing development in South Shields which is the first truly carbon negative social housing development in the region.

The £3.1m scheme, a partnership between Four Housing Group, South Tyneside Council, Groundwork, Galliford Try and the Homes and Communities Agency, and comprises of 21 homes.
