Cheshire West and Cheshire Council save £1m

Cheshire West and Chester Council has saved £1m by modernising and streamlining its financial services.

The council originally forecasted savings of £500,000, but exceeded this target by double in the past year and a half.

Funding cuts meant Cheshire West and Chester had to make significant cost reductions, much of which fell to the Council’s finance team to increase productivity and tighten spending.

The council implemented a software solution that uses real-time information through a single-based web system, and allows budget managers from across the council to access budgets and forecasts.

Charlotte Wynn, finance manager at Cheshire West and Chester Council, commented: “We have completely transformed our Finance service, and delivered £1 million in savings.

“On top of that we anticipate additional savings because the solution allows budgets to be managed more closely, which encourages people to query spending.”

“Integrating all the data can be done almost at the touch of a button now, which has reduced our reporting cycle by over a week. The whole process is a lot better now that there is a single version of the truth, which everyone has access to.”
