Distributed Management Systems join "G-Cloud" procurement scheme

Blackburn-based technology business, Distributed Management Systems, has won a place on the Government’s “G-Cloud” procurement framework.

The firm will be able to find opportunities through the framework across the public sector, with pre-approval from the Government.

G-Cloud lets government departments and other public organisations look for IT services from an online “CloudStore” in a bid to reduce red tape and speed up procurement processes.

This is the third strand of the G-Cloud scheme, and was launched alongside a government announcement that public sector buyers should consider their pre-approved suppliers before any others.

Distributed Management Systems is a software firm that specialises in cyber security after more than 20 years in the IT sector,

Director, Basil Philipsz, commented: “Prior to becoming part of the G-Cloud framework, we did have a small amount of government business which we got through working with intermediate suppliers.

“However, as we are a small business with five staff we didn’t try to win government business directly as we thought we would fail the pre-qualification checks, which previously used to be orientated to larger companies. Now, we hope the new framework will bring more opportunities our way.”

Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude added: “G-Cloud brings a step change in the way government buys IT.

“It’s quicker, cheaper and more competitive, open to a wider range of companies, including a majority of SMEs, and offers more choice and innovation.

“Many government departments already use G-Cloud, but IT costs are still too high. One way we can reduce them is to accelerate the adoption of Cloud across the public sector to maximise its benefits while, at the same time, supporting innovation and growth in this country’s vibrant technology sector.”
