Waterstons Ltd Achieve Investors in People Gold x2!
Durham based IT consultants Waterstons Ltd are celebrating after achieving Investors in People Gold for a second time. An IiP organisation since 2001, Waterstons achieved the Gold award for the first time in 2010 before achieving the award for the second time this year.
As part of their recent review, a cross section of employees were interviewed to gather evidence that the company was maintaining and improving its people management practices in line with the framework and the IiP Gold award. Various areas of the business were assessed, including leadership, learning and development, performance measurement, and recognition and reward.
The resulting feedback commended Waterstons for its commitment to a culture of continuous learning and in particular the development of individual talent.
Praise was also given to the strength of Waterstons’ employee review process and the range of ways available to staff to develop their skills including external courses, conferences, reading and seminars. A particular mention was given to the focus on knowledge sharing within the business as a means of learning.
The report also applauded Waterstons’ flexible working practices.
Chris Jones, IiP Specialist for Investors in People North of England said:
“Waterstons has a clear appreciation of the work/life balance. Good examples were given of changed working patterns for mothers who wanted to go part-time and flexibility of working hours accorded to someone who cannot drive. The more general rule of not having fixed working times is a particularly unusual example of work/life balance.
“Waterstons is an exceptional example of an Investors in People organisation. Waterstons’ starting point is its vision and values, which are deeply embedded in its practice. As a result, all staff are absolutely clear what Waterstons stands for and where it is headed. Without exception, the people seen during this IIP review are wholly committed and motivated to achieving the vision, as well as to developing the skills, knowledge, understanding and attributes required in order to do so.”
