Housebuilder looks for young North East recruits

Housebuilder Persimmon, is looking for nine young people in the North East to join the business.

As part of the firm’s national drive to recruit 225 young people, Persimmon Homes North East is searching for five new apprentices in bricklaying and joinery, two trainee sales advisors and two graduate technical staff.

Managing director John Eynon says he wants to hear from young people across the region, looking for their first job in the construction industry.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to join a thriving business.

“We work hard on our training programmes and enjoy sharing our knowledge with young people and progressing them through the business. Many of our current directors started their careers at 16, and our current chief executive, Jeff Fairburn, started on a Youth Training Scheme. You never know, one of these young people may be our future chief executive in years to come!”

The new recruitment comes as Persimmon reported a 7% increase in the number of homes it had completed in the first half of 2012, and stated the Government’s Help to Buy scheme had added momentum to the traditionally strong spring sales season.

Sales are 19% ahead of this time last year and at the end of June, the value of forward sales as around £920m.

Persimmon has opened 90 sites in the first half of the year and plans to open a further 85 in the remainder of 2013.
