GVA win share of £50m Northern care homes contract

Property consultancy GVA, who operate offices in the North West and North East, have secured a share of a £50m Government care home contract.

The firm will project manage and cost consult on the refurbishment of five care homes across the two region.

The instruction follows Jeremy Hunt’s announcement last month of the 116 successful hospitals and care homes to have been awarded a share of a £50m fund to improve the care environments of people suffering with dementia.

GVA assisted HC-One in submitting its application for the funding, from which HC-One was successful in securing seven projects nationally.

GVA will project manage the refurbishment of five out of HC-One’s seven care home projects. These care homes are based in Bury, Knowsley, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Salford and Bishops Aukland. GVA will act as cost consultant for the projects whilst co-ordinating and managing the design teams carrying out the refurbishment work.

On the instruction, Stephen Martin, director at GVA, said: “We are pleased to have been able to assist HC-One in securing funding for these seven projects, which will benefit the health and wellbeing of the care home residents.

“This instruction builds on our experience and expertise in the healthcare sector and we look forward to successfully managing and co-ordinating the projects on behalf of HC-One, to ensure the funding secured through this Government scheme is well spent.”

Gordon Asher, senior project manager for HC-One, said: “HC-One’s aim is to provide the kindest care and the Government’s dementia funding will help us continue to meet this aim. With this in mind, we look forward to working closely with the GVA and to the work ahead.”
