Newcastle DNA laboratory eyes expansion following top accreditation
A Newcastle-based DNA analysis laboratory has achieved ISO lab accreditation for its testing services and is looking to expansion into new fields.
NorthGene provide services to the legal profession, coroners, embassies and the general public - to determine paternity, maternity and siblingship.
The ISO 17025 accreditation is expected to expand into forensic medicine, human identification and other molecular testing based around DNA sequencing, analysis and interpretation.
Managing Director Marie Whitehouse commented “We are delighted to have been awarded accreditation in recognition of the very high quality standards we consistently maintain at NorthGene.
“As a lab-based service we are able to deliver competitively priced accurate results with very quick turnaround times using our own highly skilled consultant, scientific, quality and R&D teams based at the world renowned genetics and fertility hub at The International Centre for Life in Newcastle.
“Most importantly we have a dedicated client liaison team who are wholly focused on delivering the “human touch” to not only the legal profession, other labs, doctors & clinics but also concerned families at what is often a stressful and uncertain time.”
Professor Sir John Burn, NorthGene founder and chief medical officer added: “Becoming ISO accredited now enables us to expand our specialist medical, clinical and scientific teams to deliver a wider portfolio of DNA based testing which has accurate results reporting, quality and customer care at the heart of our service.”
NorthGene Limited was established in 1996 and is based in Newcastle’s Centre for Life. It is part of the QuantuMDx Group.
