BBIC helps Barnsley businesses outgrow premises
Business support at Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre (BBIC) has allowed two companies to outgrow their premises.
Single Use Surgical, a medical equipment company, and Folio Albums, a fine art album company have recently moved from the business centre in Wilthorpe to their own premises in Barnsley.
The GENESIS programme was started in 2002 as a business incubation programme providing intensive support to eligible businesses for up to 12 months, offering dedicated mentoring and access to business development workshops to new/early stage businesses based in Barnsley.
Single Use Surgical manufactures high quality single-use fine surgical suction tubes and the business was set up in response to growing concerns over the cleaning of reusable fine lumen instruments.
16 members of staff now work for the company which decided it needed more space and a new home for increasing levels of stock.
Single Use Surgical started its journey at BBIC 11 years ago as members of the very first GENESIS business programme.
Matthew Tulley, Director of Single Use Surgical explained: “We now have three times as much space as we did in the BBIC, which will allow us more space for storage and to grow our team further in the near future but the support we received whilst at the BBIC was superb.”
Single Use Surgical, now based at Park Springs in Barnsley, has seen a 15% to 20% increase in its turnover year on year, something which Matthew is confident will continue.
The business currently turns over around £2million per annum, and is hoping to double this to £4m over the next few years.
Folio Albums is a similar success story with the business tripling in size since starting at BBIC in May 2010. Folio Albums makes and supplies fine art wedding and portrait albums for professional photographers.
The business was set up by Stuart and Julie Randall who have now expanded to Shortwood Business Park in the Barnsley borough.
Lyndsey Maw, Operations Manager of BBIC, explained: “We are so pleased for both Single Use Surgical and Folio Albums for their business growth and continuing success.
“It is also excellent news that both businesses are staying local to Barnsley which falls in line with our company mission to help businesses grow and assist economic growth in the Borough.”
Due to the success of Single Use Surgical and Folio Albums, BBIC have a number of business units available at their Wilthorpe site ranging from 500 square feet to over 1500 square feet.
