Yorkshire & Humber delicacies showcased at Brussels diplomatic dinner

Fine food and drink producers from Yorkshire and the Humber will be showcased at a festive reception at the British Embassy in Brussels this Wednesday.

Nearly 30 specialty companies from the region will feature on the menu at the GREAT British Christmas reception, hosted by the British Ambassador to Belgium, Jonathan Brenton.

Among them are seafood producers Edwin Jenkinson Ltd of Scarborough, Venture Seafoods of Bridlington, and Grimsby-based Alfred Enderby; Jackson’s Bakery of Hull, who will be providing sandwiches and Yorkshire canapes; and cheese-makers including Wensleydale Creamery, Cryer and Stott near Castleford, and Shepherds Purse in Thirsk.

Turkey and ‘pigs in blankets’ will be supplied by award-winning British Premium Sausage Ltd, based in Bradford, while Maysum Foods of Leeds will provide traditional Asian snacks.

Drinks will be provided by a range of Yorkshire suppliers including Acorn Brewery of Barnsley, Wharfebank Brewery of Otley and Copper Dragon of Skipton, with sloe port and gin from SLOEMotion near York, and mineral water from Blue Keld Springs Ltd in Driffield.

Lauden Chocolate of Leeds, Wadsley Hall Farm Kitchen of Sheffield and The Harrogate Cake Company will be among those supplying sweets and desserts.

Stephen Noblett, food and drink specialist for UKTI Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “We are very proud that some of our leading food and drink companies have been chosen to showcase their products, from world-famous cheeses to craft beers.

“The Yorkshire and Humber region is the UK’s biggest food producing area, with more than 15,000 companies in the region generating £7.1bn turnover every year, and tomorrow night’s reception will be a chance for the ambassador’s guests to see the very best that the region has to offer.”
