York solicitors warn of the hazards of social media in the workplace
Potential hazards for employers of staff using social media indiscriminately in the workplace will come under the spotlight at a free employment seminar.
According to statistics released in December of last year by the ONS, almost half (44%) of the largest businesses used social media to recruit employees in 2012, compared with 12% of all businesses.
Engagement with social media and the acceptance of it in the workplace can cause problems for businesses accoridng to Langleys solicitors in York.
‘Social media in an employment context’ will cover the various ways social media – including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn – can impact on the relationship between workers and their bosses.
Open to both employees and managers, the seminar will look at the different issues associated with social media for employers and provide an update on recent case law.
Other topics to be covered include how social media can affect a company’s productivity and reputation and its potential to be used in bullying and harassment at work. Advice will also be given on creating a social media policy.
The seminar is free and takes place on Thursday, 9 January 2014 at Langleys, Queens House, Micklegate, York, 8.30am-11am.
