Arts and cultural apprenticeships on offer for North East youngsters
Ten creative apprentices will be recruited by arts and cultural organisations throughout the region via a Government funded project.
Recruitment events over January and February will allow potential employees to find out more about the apprenticeships, due to start in March.
Strong Voices is delivered by Bridge North East and is working in partnership with organisations such as Gateshead College and Sage Gateshead.
The ten apprenticeships will be available to young people who are Looked After/Leaving Care, Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).
The scheme aims to promote apprenticeships to cultural businesses, and encourage young people to target these sectors in their career planning.
Strong Voices Programme Manager Jenny Young said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. The apprenticeship has mutual benefits to the employer and the individual in that it leads to the apprentice being in a workplace doing a job that they believe they wish to follow a career in, whilst they are in a role that has been defined by the employer.
“The young person is paid a salary that is defined by national minimum requirements. They are trained both on the job and through attending agreed off job learning delivered by a recognised training provider leading to nationally recognised qualifications.”
Grants and funding support is available to those taking on a creative apprentice. A recruitment event for employers will be held on January 16 at the Barbour Room in Sage Gateshead where there will be more information on the scheme and an event for potential apprentices at the same venue on February 3.
To register for the events or for more information on the apprenticeship programme call 0191 4435293 or email: strongvoices@sagegateshead.com.
