Tees firm confirm tender to dismantle Costa Concordia

Teesside-based ABLE UK limited has confirmed its tender to dismantle and recycle the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which ran aground near the Italian island of Giglio in June.

Media coverage of the incident was widespread as thirty-two people died as the ship struck rocks while sailing too close to the island.

ABLE are looking to win the recycling work which would take place at its Able Seaton Port in Hartlepool.

The firm has previously used its Teesside Environmental Reclamation and Recycling facility (TERRC) to complete dismantling of the French aircraft carrier, Le Clemenceau and vessels from the US navy.

The facility is one of the world’s largest dry docks and previous jobs employed over 100 people in the region.
