Yorkshire manufacturers to expand offshore activity following DNV GL approval

A Yorkshire based manufacturer has set its sights on significant expansion after being granted product approval by the world’s leading ship and offshore classification society.

The approval by DNV GL means Ellis Patents, of Rillington, Malton, can expand its presence in the offshore and shipping markets.

It relates to Ellis’ market leading Vulcan and Emperor cable cleats.

DNV GL is a world-leader of independent assurance and expert advisory services for the sector.

Ellis is the only manufacturer in the electrical industry that focuses solely on cable cleats. Its products, all of which are short circuit and third party tested prior to being brought to market, are specified and installed around the globe.

Andy Booth, technical director of Ellis, said: “DNV GL Type Approval is one of the most commonly requested product certifications in any of the geographical or industry markets, which we operate in.

“And although we already have a considerable presence in the offshore and shipping market, this approval will open a great deal of new doors and enable us to firmly establish our position as market leader.”

Ellis’ DNV GL approval complies with DNV’s Rule for Classification of Ships, High Speed & Light Craft and its Offshore Standards, and covers the fixing of cables on-board Mobile Offshore Units and Ships.

Ellis’ cable cleats are designed and manufactured to secure electrical cables in a manner that can withstand the forces generated by the cables, including those generated during a short circuit fault.

Manufactured in 316L stainless steel, Ellis’ Emperor and Vulcan cleats provide ultimate corrosion protection, even in the harshest of environments, meaning they are ideal for offshore and shipping installations.
