Arcterra appointed to Dukesway Scheme

Setting up business in the midst of one of the worst recessions ever recorded does not appear to have been a hindrance to Boldon-based construction management consultancy Arcterra, as it announces it has secured a major new appointment.

Working on behalf of UK Land Estates, Arcterra has been appointed in a dual capacity to provide both project management and construction design management (CDM) co-ordination services on a multi-million pound industrial development, Dukesway Central. This is the first industrial development of any kind on Team Valley since the recession hit and is currently out to tender.

Dukesway Central will provide some 200,000 sq ft, of high quality industrial accommodation and is believed to be the largest development of its type about to commence in the region.

A significant contract win for Arcterra, this latest appointment follows swiftly on from the handover of Go North East’s £7 million state-of-the-art bus depot at Metro Riverside, Dunston where the consultant acted as project manager and CDM co-ordinator for UK Land Estates.

Set up in 2009 by director, Scott Waite, Arcterra operates across the leisure, retail, education, office development and industrial development sectors. The consultancy has also project managed schemes in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.

In 2013, Arcterra enjoyed an increase in annual turnover and new appoints on the previous year working on projects with a combined build value of £10 million. According to Mr Waite much of this growth came from appointments to provide CDM co-ordination services, an area where expects to see continued growth in 2014. He said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce a further appointment with UK Land Estates, as it allows us to build on the strong working relationship we have established with the developer advising them on a number of projects in the region, most notably the bus depot for Go North East.

“In our role as project manager and CDM co-ordinator clients gain from our ability to reduce the costs associated with the tendering process and build costs, which means they are getting better value for money while achieving the quality of building they envisaged at the outset.”

Speaking about the new found confidence in the construction sector in the region Mr Waite continued.

“Recently there has been some positive news coverage about the construction sector and I am certainly seeing a return to confidence with a number of my clients and as a result I am very optimistic that we will experience continued growth in 2014. I see CDM as a growth area for the company and expect to be able to expand our experience in that field by building on the wide variety of projects we have successfully delivered. Typically this has so far included projects in the energy sector, new build restaurants in Tynemouth and Newcastle as well as residential schemes and mixed use developments.”

Arcterra is currently acting for City Leisure Holdings on the redevelopment of a key leisure site on Newcastle’s Grey Street to create Harry’s Bar and Grill, a new 250-seat cafe bar.
