Fuel firm launches education programme to teach about role of oil

Certas Energy, the largest independent fuel and lubricant distributor in the UK, has launched an educational programme to teach children about the role oil plays in everyday lives.

Certas Energy created the scientific content, in collaboration with education provider Mad Science, in order to contribute positively to the communities it serves as well as the 2,500 people it employs.

The one hour educational workshop will tour UK schools throughout January and February 2014, showing pupils how oil is made and its importance in the local area.

The workshop has been designed to fit directly within the current school curriculum, offering complementary learning while conveying Certas Energy’s key messages.

Emma Wordsworth, Certas Energy’s director of HR, said: “We operate in a wide range of sectors including industrial, agricultural and commercial, and this public education initiative forms part of our corporate social responsibility strategy to reach our domestic customers. We have a large presence in the areas these workshops are visiting, providing energy to homes and employing local people.

“We are working closely with local schools to ensure these workshops benefit children, their families and the wider community. This gives us the opportunity to showcase our dynamic educational approach and increase scientific literacy in the nation’s children, while promoting awareness of how Certas Energy operates.”
