Leeds accountants grow with international alliance

Yorkshire accountants Garbutt & Elliott have welcomed the strong growth in revenue announced by Praxity, the global alliance of accountancy firms of which they are a member.

David Dickson, senior partner of Garbutt & Elliott who have offices in York and Leeds, has revealed that revenue for Praxity grew by 9% to US$4.1bn in 2013, up from US$3.7bn in 2012.

Commenting on the figures, David Dickson said that while a proportion of this growth was the result of member firms’ strategic acquisitions, most of the firms generated very good internal growth in 2013.

“The firms have clearly benefited from the improving economies in many countries and from their membership of Praxity in more than 100 countries around the world,” he explained.

Mr Dickson, who is also a member of the Praxity World Governing Council, indicated that an increasing number of mid-tier companies are now looking at accountancy practices of the size of Garbutt & Elliott, which offer genuine, worldwide connections, and are finding this invaluable as they explore business opportunities outside the UK.

He continued: “Movement to a unified 20 per cent corporation tax rate and the development of the Patent Box regime, which allows for reduced levels of corporation tax on profits from patented products and processes, will be key drivers for UK inward investment.

“Members of Praxity are aware that the UK has a highly skilled and flexible workforce.

“Through Garbutt & Elliott’s presentations at the latest annual Praxity conference we were able to demonstrate that a significant proportion of the workforce in York and Leeds has relevant qualifications.

“This is regarded as key in determining future development,” he said.

At their offices in York and Leeds, Garbutt & Elliott will be hosting a number of international delegations and working with Praxity members’ clients to identify and develop potential opportunities for corporate investment in Yorkshire.
