York insolvency company attempts to save lightning protection firm

A York insolvency firm has saved the jobs of employees at Harrison Lightning Protection & Earthing Ltd for the moment, who worked on the Drax power station in Selby and went into administration recently.

Rob Sadler of Begbies Traynor and David Broadbent of Broadbents Business Recovery Services were appointed on February 28.

Formed out of the old Harrison Group in 2001, and based in Middleton St George, Harrison specialises in lightning protection, earthing, surge protection and testing services within the UK.

It has worked on many high profile projects including the Docklands Light Railway extension for London 2012, Ministry of Defence projects in St Kilda (Outer Hebrides) and Drax Power Station.

The company is continuing to trade whilst the joint administrators review the options. Harrison employs eight members of staff and there have been no redundancies.

Joint administrator Rob Sadler said: “Unfortunately, there was a build up of debt which pushed the company into insolvency.

“We are continuing to trade the business while all of the options are considered which include the possibility of a voluntary arrangement and/or a sale of the business.”
