George Osborne’s budget: the way to go, or not far enough?
Having just sat through the inevitable classroom heckling that is a meeting of our government, I have turned off the telly feeling a bit deflated.
I expected a rabbit to be pulled out of a hat, a shocker from Osborne that made my jaw drop a bit, but all I got was more of the same, with a few crowd-pleasers (shiny new pound coins, 1p off our pint - better than nout, I suppose).
Fair enough, it seems to be working, but how much of it is natural bounce-back from the recession, and how much has actually been fuelled by government policy?
For a government who has attempted to be considered “green” giving energy tax cuts to companies seems a bit of a back-step, of course it will help the manufacturing industry, but, like the Help To Buy scheme which has been extended to 2020, it seems a short term fix to a long term problem.
