Wakefield’s Bonmarché reports 10% increase in sales as online growth continues

Bonmarché, the Wakefield-based women’s retailer, has reported a 10.4% increase in sales on last year.

Like-for-like sales increased by 13.5% for the last 13 weeks, bringing the figure for the year to 10.4%.

Combining online sales growth with the like-for-like figure raises the quarter’s figure to 16.3% and the year’s to 13.1%.

This is for the period ended March 29, which is the first full year Bonmarché has been a listed company.

For the 2014 financial year, the statement read: “The board is pleased with the current year’s performance, and anticipates that the outcome will be slightly ahead of its expectations.

“The Company’s financial position is sound, and we enter the new financial year with a clean stock position.”

Beth Butterwick, chief executive officer of Bonmarché, said: “I am delighted with our performance, particularly with this being our first year end as a listed company.

“The growth driven though product, stores and multi-channel initiatives, demonstrates our customers’ positive reaction to our strategy.

We will continue to learn from our customers as we progress. I look forward to outlining further growth initiatives for the new financial year, when I present our preliminary results on 13 June“
