Ogilvie Communications create 25 jobs following £750k

Technology group Ogilvie Communications has invested £750k in more than doubling the size of its North East office, as it looks to create 25 new jobs in the region in the next two years.

The Gateshead-based IT and communications firm, which previously leased the ground floor of Avalon House on Team Valley, has purchased and refurbished the entire two-storey building.

Ogilvie, which has bought the building from Lloyds Bank, has additional UK offices in Stirling and London, as well as a US operation in New York.

The deal increases the size of the firm’s North East presence from 2200 to 5200 sq ft and comes during a period of prolonged growth for the business.

Ogilvie currently employs around 30 people at its Gateshead office and now has the capacity to add an additional 30 people to its team.

It expects to fill at least 25 new roles within two years, amid strong demand for its services. Sales director David Cox said: “Having grown rapidly over the last two years and taken on a number of large corporate customers as well as a growing band of SME clients, we feel this is the optimum time to kick on to the next level.

“The investment in our North East base will be followed by a recruitment drive in the region as we look to build on our achievements of recent years.

“We will be looking to fill a range of roles including technical, administrative and sales positions.”

Ogilvie specialises in emerging and established technologies which enable businesses of all sizes to improve their efficiency, security and competitiveness.

It provides integrated telecoms, mobile, voice, IT, infrastructure, network cabling and monitoring and security services.

Its large corporate clients include media and entertainment giant BSkyB and utilities supplier EDF Energy, while Northumberland County Council is listed among its public sector customers.

The firm recently completed a six month contract with transport group Network Rail to re-cable Edinburgh Waverley station.

On the back of this, the company has this month won new contracts with Network Rail for work on a further six stations, while there are ongoing negotiations for a number of other rail-related contracts.

Other recent work undertaken by Ogilvie includes its role as technology partner to Cromlix – the plush Perthshire hotel recently acquired by tennis star Andy Murray.

Through its subsidiary Net-defence (www.net-defence.com), Ogilvie is also offering specialist data and IT security services to an increasing number of celebrities and high net worth individuals.
