Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, Katy Cushing

Barratt Developments PLC’s Yorkshire West division has promoted Katy Cushing as a new trainee sales manager to further strengthen sales opportunities across the region, following the huge boost to the housing market in West Yorkshire over the last 12 months.

John Thornber - previously Head of Research at Border Asset Management and Investment Strategist at Sanlam - has joined the team at Andrews Gwynne LLP

The Leeds-based firm, which was formed in the late 1970s, is a boutique private wealth manager, providing investment management services, combined with independent financial advice.

Andrews Gwynne’s Partner Douglas Croft said: “I’ve known of John and his capabilities for many years. He is highly-regarded in our industry and I’m confident he will be a strong asset to Andrews Gwynne.

“With him now bringing his wealth of experience on-board we will be able to strengthen our core business - which is providing a highly personalised, largely discretionary, service to private clients, their trusts and pension funds, and, in particular, expanding our work on behalf of charities.”

Chamber International, Michealla Platts, Hayley Nutt and Rachel Ellis

Three key appointments have been made by overseas trade specialist Chamber International to keep pace with growing business demand for export support.

The appointments are international trade services manager, Michealla Platts and international trade administrators, Hayley Nutt and Rachel Ellis.

Michealla Platts, who has 20 years exporting experience in the automotive and textile testing equipment sectors in West Yorkshire, will take responsibility for Chamber International’s fast-growing export ‘order-to-final-delivery’ facility which is relied on daily by new-to-export companies and seasoned overseas traders.

Hayley Nutt, a qualified business administrator, joins from a neighbouring chamber of commerce where she gained experience in international trade procedures.

Rachel Ellis worked for the largest UK-owned logistics provider, Wincanton PLC, at its Bradford distribution centre as part of a team responsible forglobal supply chain services forambient foodsfor retail giant Marks & Spencer.

Chamber International trade director, Tim Bailey, says: “We looked long and hard to find the very best people we could attract into these roles which will significantly increase our ability to help the region increase its share of global trade.”

Gibson Booth Ltd. , Robert Watson

Robert Watson has taken over as managing director at Barnsley accountancy firm Gibson Booth Limited and is planning a new look for the company with a new logo and website.

The rebranding is being backed by business support programme Enterprising Barnsley, which is run by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to help companies grow.

Robert, who has been at Gibson Booth Limited since 1998, said: “Gary Dickinson has done a great job for the last 12 years. He is a valuable part of the business and I know that his experience will be of great help to me in the future.

“As accountants we offer all the services you would expect, with an emphasis on personal service, and we have been doing that well for decades. But I realise we need to keep up to date, not just with the services we offer, but also with the way we look.”

Newtons Solicitors, Claire Armer

North Yorkshire law firm, Newtons Solicitors, has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of Claire Armer.

Claire Armer, who joins as a senior solicitor, is a company commercial solicitor who is also experienced in commercial property law and will be based at Newtons Solicitors head office in Knaresborough.

Newtons Solicitors managing director, Chris Newton, who founded the business with his wife, Sarah in 2009, says: “Claire, who joins from Berwins, is our 15th appointment in the last 12 months and a great addition to our strong corporate team.

“She will work alongside corporate dealmaker, James Towler and head of employment law, Tiggy Clifford in York and our head of commercial property Gareth Jones in Darlington.”

Baker Tilly, John Brien

Leeds accountancy firm Baker Tilly has appointed John Brien as Associate Director in its private client tax team.

John has 16 years’ experience of working in private client tax teams in some of the city’s major accountancy and legal firms including Gordons LLP, Menzies LLP and Deloitte.

Steve Brown, Baker Tilly’s head of Private Client Tax in Leeds, said: ‘We are currently experiencing strong demand for tax planning services, particularly among high net worth individuals. John brings with him significant experience and local knowledge, and he will be a huge asset to our private client base here in Yorkshire.’
