Proposed Kenton McDonald’s outlet faces significant local objection

Newcastle City Council has received planning permission application for a McDonald’s outlet on Kenton Lane in Newcastle.

This proposal comes as part of a national campaign by the fast food retailer to create 8,000 new jobs by the end of the year.

The 2,831 sqm two-story outlet complete with drive-thru has been proposed on the former Crofter’s Lodge plot on the corner of Kenton Lane and Ponteland Road.

Newcastle City Council has received more than 30 objections from neighbours and local businesses.

Cllr Ged Bell echoed the concerns of neighbouring residents, he said: “This is already an extremely busy junction at all times of the day and night. The increase, in particular of motor vehicles would obviously cause problems to the road layout and to the local residents trying to access their properties.”

“Not only will this cause safety issues for local residents but also for the students of the local school. Kenton Academy is the largest school in Newcastle and the restaurant will be located on one of the main pedestrian routes to and from the school.”
