Footballer Fabrice Muamba’s wife creates Caribbean range to hit ASDA’s North West stores
Shauna Muamba, wife of former Premier League footballer Fabrice Muamba, has created her very own range of authentic Caribbean Cooking Sauces, which launched in five Asda stores in the North West this week – Farnworth, Wigan, Horwich, Clayton Green and Fleetwood.
The new Mrs Muamba’s range aims to offer an authentic taste of the Caribbean and demonstrate the versatility of Caribbean cuisine. The range comprises of five authentic ambient Caribbean Cooking Sauces: Brown Stew, Caribbean BBQ, Jerk, Caribbean Sweet & Spicy and Caribbean Curry.
The recipes were perfected by Shauna after she moved to the North West – with many of Fabrice’s Bolton Wanderers teammates subsequently becoming big fans of her Caribbean cuisine.
Shauna’s husband, Fabrice Muamba, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest whilst playing for Bolton Wanderers against Tottenham in an FA Cup quarter final match, watched by millions of TV viewers two years ago.
A defibrillator was on site and it was this equipment, along with the combined skills of the medical teams on the scene and at the hospital, which saved his life.
Following this life-changing event, Mrs Muamba’s has teamed-up with heart rhythm charity, the Arrhythmia Alliance, and a donation from the sale of every jar will go towards supporting the “Hearts & Goals” campaign to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and make defibrillators publically accessible to all.
Shauna Muamba, said: “My Caribbean catering business was performing well, so I knew people would appreciate having the authentic flavours of the Caribbean in their own home, using sauces created in my kitchen and made without any nasty additives.
“It is fantastic that my Caribbean sauces will be available in Asda and that their customers will be able to experience the true flavours of the Caribbean with my own special range.
“Importantly a small donation from the sale of every jar will also go to the Hearts & Goals charity that will help increase accessibility of defibrillators, which will save lives”.
Imran Raje, from Asda’s local sourcing team, comments: “We’re delighted to be the first supermarket to stock Mrs Muamba’s cooking sauces.
“Customers will not only get the chance to experience the authentic flavours of the Caribbean, but they will also be helping to save lives, as a donation from the sale of every jar is made to the Arrhythmia Alliance charity.”
Asda is currently in the process of installing defibrillators in every one of its stores, depots and offices across the UK and by the end of 2014, Asda will be the first large retailer in the UK with CPR-trained colleagues and a public access defibrillator in every store.
