Record number of start-ups for Halifax
The first quarter of the year saw Halifax, West Yorkshire smash its own record for new company formations.
Over the three months, there were 183 new companies registered - more than any other first quarter on record and a 12% rise on the previous year.
The report also shows a 35% rise in company closures during the period, suggesting trading conditions have not yet returned to pre-recession levels.
Despite this, net company growth (the number of formations minus the number of closures) remained almost exactly level with 2013.
Managing director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis commented: “Our report shows a mixed bag of results for Halifax. Rising company formation suggests business confidence is on the rise, whilst an increase in closures suggests that trading conditions are still difficult in some sectors.”
