Housebuilding enterprise expands in York after £10 million of schemes
A housebuilding firm has been opened as part of its expansion in York city centre, stepping up its activity in York and North Yorkshire.
Managed by two directors, Richard Marchant and Scott Waters, Alcuin Homes currently has £10 million of schemes at various stages of progress across Yorkshire.
The privately-owned company, which was founded in 2011 has completed its first scheme in York, a £1.3 millon development of four family homes at York Gardens, Dunnington, all of which were sold off-plan, and has a £1.2 million scheme for three townhouses in Minster Walk, Heworth, due to complete this autumn.
The directors have more than 30 combined years’ experience in residential property development with major companies, including Persimmon Homes and Redrow Homes.
Alcuin Homes Ltd, is named after English scholar Flaccus Albinus Alcuinus, who lived in York in the eighth century and was the second headmaster at St Peter’s School, York, before becoming chancellor to Emperor Charlemagne.
Richard Marchant, a former Persimmon Homes technical director, says: “We chose the name Alcuin Homes because of its long association with York’s history and to try and reflect the gravitas we aspire to in developing high-quality, bespoke schemes which are individually designed and specified for each site.
“We’re pleased to move into York to demonstrate our commitment to North Yorkshire and chose the city centre to be close to other professionals as part of our strategy to target good high-quality locations and create bespoke homes and to use local professionals and suppliers wherever possible.
“We do not have any “off-the-shelf” designs as each development is devised around the site.”
Scott Waters, who also has worked at Persimmon Homes, Charles Church and Redrow Homes in various land and development roles, adds: “We have significant experience of all aspects of the house building industry and an excellent team of consultants providing us with a first-class service which benefits both land owners and home buyers.
“Our financial backing means we are not reliant on bank funding. This places us in a strong position to move the business forward and means we are actively seeking new development opportunities, with or without planning permission, that meet our exacting standards.”
Alcuin Homes is soon to start on a development of four detached family homes at Shepley, near Huddersfield, with other schemes at various stages of the planning process.
