Mexican restaurant brand Tortilla moves into Liverpool ONE

Grosvenor has announced that Tortilla, the Mexican restaurant brand, is to open its first restaurant in the North West at Liverpool ONE. Taking a 2,200 sq ft site over two levels on Lord Street, Tortilla will open mid-November 2014.

Tortilla launched in London in 2007 selling California-style Mexican cuisine.

Miles Dunnett, head of asset management, Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, said: “Tortilla is an excellent addition to Liverpool ONE’s great mix of dining brands, which provide a varied selection of cuisine from across the globe.

“The Liverpool ONE dining offer continues to grow, making it the biggest and most exciting line up of its type in the region.

“The selection of Liverpool ONE by Tortilla to launch their first North West restaurant is a testament to how important the destination is as a landmark for brands expanding across the UK.”

Richard Morris, managing director at Tortilla, added: “This is a very exciting time for Tortilla as we continue to execute our expansion plan and we are thrilled to be opening our 21st restaurant in Liverpool.

“Our burritos are fresh, affordable and more importantly taste fantastic. Liverpool ONE is a brilliant destination and we can’t wait to bring our burritos to the North-West.”

The announcement follows a record year for Liverpool ONE’s restaurants and cafés, with catering sales up by 10% year-on-year.

Other new dining additions in the last six months included Ed’s Easy Diner, the first Bill’s and TGI Friday’s in Liverpool, and the first Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Café-Bar in the North West.

Additionally, performance has been strong for the first six months of the year in Liverpool ONE, with sales increasing by 4.6% overall. The trend continued in July, with sales up by 6.7%, following the BRC revealing retail sales nationally had fallen by 0.8%.
