North West construction firm Artez sees £500k worth of new projects
North West based construction company Artez has today announced it will undertake more than half a million pounds worth of new projects as well as making a significant appointment to its management team.
The business, which is based in Bolton but serves a client base across the UK, has welcomed former Gleeds QS Mike Wood to its team.
Central to his new role is the development of Artez’s rapidly growing client base which already includes big name clients such as Peel Holdings (with whom Wood will continue his involvement on the Western Gateway Infrastructure Scheme at Salford City Stadium), Urban Splash and Capital & Centric, the developer behind the revitalisation of Liverpool’s Littlewoods Building where Artez is delivering £2 million of construction work.
Meanwhile the new projects include £400,000 of work at Newgate Market, an important heritage site dating back to the medieval era, on behalf of the City of York.
The Artez team will undertake construction works including the creation of new build market kiosks, for which they’ll employ a high-quality, specialist metal cladding system.
The team are also keen to use handmade bricks and roof tiles to ensure that the restored areas are in keeping with the immediate surroundings.
The market, which is located in York city centre between The Shambles and Parliament Street currently boasts 100 market stalls.
It is the latest in a series of Listed building and heritage projects the company has won in Yorkshire and the North East following their work earlier this year on Newcastle’s Eldon Buildings,
MD Mike Banton, who founded Artez in 2010 following an extensive career with Artisan and Urban Splash, said: “We have a real empathy for schemes like these and an understanding of the sensitivities surrounding conservation and heritage sites; they’re incredibly interesting and exciting to work on.”
Artez has also further bolstered its partnership with the Market Place in Bolton, for whom it will now deliver ongoing refurbishment and construction works.
The project is part of the shopping centre’s programme of improvements which include the transformation of a series of Victorian vaults into new restaurant, bar and retail spaces, the creation of a 30,000 sq ft nine-screen cinema complex and the completion of renovations to the existing malls; all of which are intended to vastly enhance the experience of shoppers and visitors to the Market Place.
Mike concluded: “Developing and maintaining key client relationships is another area where we’ve been successful and I’m delighted we’ve been able to forge such a key long-term working partnership in our home town; we cannot wait to see - and use - the finished product!
“The Market Place improvements are a major focus for Bolton and I’m proud we’re a part of such an exciting development.”
Other work sees Artez undertake the refurbishment of an industrial unit in Trafford Park on behalf of its client Eddisons and they have also just completed the £100,000 refurbishment of the Oasis Academy in Short Heath, Birmingham.
In the four years since its conception, Artez has grown to £4 million turnover.
