This week’s North West appointments
Tom Heaton & Jennifer Jones, DS.Emotion
Leeds-based creative and digital marketing agency DS.Emotion has major two major appointments. Tom Heaton, an award-winning creative has joined as creative director and Jennifer Jones has been appointed as account manager.
DS.Emotion was established in 1991 with offices in Leeds and later in London.
It opened a studio in Manchester last year when directors Angus Armitage and Matt Button joined forces with Victoria Russell of iworx to offer creative, branding, digital and marketing services.
Director Angus Armitage said: “Opening the new studio in Manchester to capture the north west market has proved to be an excellent move for us. “With the upturn in the market and lots of new business opportunities, it’s timely to bolster our creative strength and client servicing, and being able to attract the talent of Tom & Jenny is hugely exciting for both us and our clients.”
Alex Singer, Farley’s Solicitors
Farleys Solicitors has expanded its Corporate Team with the appointment of Alex Singer.
Alex, from Prestwich, started his career at Farleys as a Paralegal with the Corporate team and then completed his two year training with the company working across its Corporate, Commercial, Litigation departments
He will be based at the company’s Parsonage Gardens office and will be part of the team headed up by Debbie King.
Alex said: “Joining the team at Farleys after my two year training is the perfect start to my legal career.
I’ve been working at the company for a number of years and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
It generates excellent results and I’m looking forward to working with the great clients and progressing my career with the company.“

Phil Marsden, Muse Developments
Muse Developments has appointed Phil Marsden as project manager at its North West office.
The national developer and urban regeneration specialist has expanded its project management team to help deliver its increasing portfolio of projects across the UK.
Phil joins the Manchester team from DBK Partners LLP, where he project managed major developments across the North West.
He brings with him more than 14 years’ experience in the construction industry, including valuable experience as a quantity surveyor for Gleeds.
He will be working on delivering a number of projects across the region, including New Bailey in Salford.
Mike Payton, director of project management at Muse, said: “I’m delighted to welcome both Andrew and Phil to Muse. It’s an extremely busy time for us, with 21 projects on site and several other major projects in the pipeline, so I’m sure we’ll benefit greatly from their wealth of experience and input.”
David Ellis & Richard Poole, ISP
Liverpool maritime firm International Safety Products (ISP) has appointed David Ellis as head of marketing and Richard Poole as regional sales manager.
Bootle-based ISP, one the world’s largest manufacturers of marine inflatable lifejackets, is looking to continue driving growth across the UK and overseas.
Mr Ellis, a former Great Britain sailing coach, has broad experience including 12 years at Henri Lloyd and maritime firms Survitec and SeaGo Yachting.
Mr Poole has 15 years’ experience as an international salesman for luxury boat specialist Sealine International. He is responsible for pushing sales of ISP’s manufactured products in southern England, Wales and Ireland.
Mr Ellis said: “ISP is a market-leader in terms of maritime safety products and I’m delighted to be joining such a dynamic and passionate business. It is an ideal business to market and promote because it growing fast, it has first class products and an abundance of positive news.
“I believe my experience working for multi-nationals will help to support ISP’s overall effort to consolidate recent growth and reach new international markets.”
Rhian Hawkins, Laura Brereton & Jack Stephenson, Harrison Drury
North West commercial law firm Harrison Drury has recruited three new trainees. Rhian Hawkins, Laura Brereton and Jack Stephenson have secured training contracts with the firm and will become qualified solicitors after two years of working with its various legal departments.
Laura previously worked as a paralegal at a firm in Blackpool specialising in personal injury law.
Rhian had been working as a paralegal for Harrison Drury since June 2013. She has a Law Degree from the University of Central Lancashire where she also gained a distinction in her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
Jack holds a law degree from the University of Central Lancashire.
Owen McKenna, a director at Harrison Drury, said: “Our training programme allows us to attract and develop some of the brightest legal minds in the region. This talent continually refreshes the firm and gives people the chance to take forward their career by working on a wide range of legal matters.
“We have offered training contracts in each of the last six years and this year’s intake of three trainees reflects our desire to continue growing the firm.”
Deborah Ascott-Jones, Richard Douglas & Karl Seed, IoD
The Institute of Directors (IoD) North West is expanding its team with the recent appointments of Deborah Ascott-Jones, Richard Douglas and Karl Seed.
Deborah Ascott-Jones joins the team as head of business development for the NW and brings with her over 30 years’ experience to the role.
Deborah joins from Brabners LLP where she has been director of business development and Marketing for the last 6 years. Richard Douglas who as events manager and regional administrator.
Richard is currently events and training Manager at North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce
Karl Seed has joined the IoD on a year’s internship from the University of Cheshire and is studying events management. His duties will be the day-to-day office administration, membership and events support.
Rachel Smith, regional director for the IoD North West, said: “The IoD North West is celebrating a year of change. We have recently moved into new prime city centre premises in Manchester and we will also be appointing a new Regional Chair shortly.
“The expansion of our NW team demonstrates our commitment to assist the hands on development of regional businesses and economic growth.”
Colette Henshaw, Lambert Smith Hampton
National commercial property consultancy, Lambert Smith Hampton has appointed Colette Henshaw, as associate director, to its Rating division in the Manchester office.
Colette has joined from CBRE and will lead LSH’s expansion into new sectors looking at challenging rates assessments in addition to advising on empty rates mitigation for vacant properties.
She will also play a key role in preparing for the impact of the 2017 Business Rates Revaluation with the potential to make significant savings for both existing and new clients.

Hollie Barton, NJL Consulting
NJL Consulting, the Manchester-based planning consultancy, has announced two internal promotions and a new hire.
Hollie Barton, a University of Manchester Town & Country Planning graduate, has joined NJL to work towards her RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) charter, while gaining hands-on experience with retail, strategic and residential clients.
The company also has promoted senior planning consultant Annabel Partridge, who joined the team in summer 2013 and works primarily on retail and commercial projects, to Associate Director.
Planning consultant Justine Entezari will be taking on the role of senior planning consultant. She joined the company in 2011 as part of its graduate programme and has worked her way up the ranks while working for a variety of clients across the retail, residential and commercial sectors.
NJL Consulting managing director Nick Lee said: “Following on from a bumper 2013, where we achieved a 100% success rate in gaining planning consents, we’ve been keen to recognise the fantastic work put in by our core team.
