Speaking from Sandringham Abdin commented; “I’m absolutely honoured to have been given this award. Working with Mosaic is my way of giving something back. I certainly never expected recognition for it but I’m obviously delighted and flattered to have been selected from such a worthy, inspirational group of individuals.”
Abdin, as well as managing a busy career as an IT professional for global legal firm Denton’s, has mentored children at the John Kelly Boys Secondary School in Neasden and Highview Primary School in Wandsworth He adds said: “The single motivating factor for me has always been to give something back to the community, seeing the change in the kids from the beginning to the end of the mentoring process is great, you can see how you have made a difference.”
Mosaic was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007 and provides fully-funded mentoring programmes into primary schools, secondary schools and prisons across the UK. An initiative of Business in the Community, the organisation will offer support through its mentoring programmes to 2,680 primary and secondary school pupils and young adults from the London area this academic year.
Jonathan Freeman, Managing Director of Mosaic commented; “We are privileged to have been invited to Sandringham today by HRH The Prince of Wales. Today’s event is all about celebrating the unique achievements of some of our longest serving mentors, without whom Mosaic could not operate. Each of these individuals had given their time to make a difference to the lives of children and individuals throughout England and we are immensely proud of their achievements.”
Mosaic’s mentoring programmes create opportunities for young people growing up in our most deprived communities. With the help of volunteer mentors acting as role models, Mosaic aims to bridge the aspirations-attainment gap. By linking young people with inspirational role models in this way it boosts their confidence, self-efficacy and long-term employability.
