Manchester United pay players more than City and Chelsea

Manchester United have the highest salary costs in the Premier League, despite not qualifying for Europe, according to newly released figures from Companies House.

The Old Trafford club presently spend £214.8million on wages, £10 million more than champions Manchester City and Chelsea who spent £190.5million.

Arsenal have an annual wage bill of £166.4million, whilst third place Southampton spent around a quarter of that in 2012/13.

Chelsea were able to announce an £18.4million profit, chiefly due to selling Juan Mata and David Luiz last season.

It seems United’s spending is only set to increase this month as new manager Louis Van Gaal has reportedly been told that he can spend as he likes to improve the club’s profitability on the pitch.
