Post Office not accepting Self Assessment Tax Payments
We have learnt that taxpayers now cannot pay self-assessment bills at the Post Office that are in excess of £10,000. This is especially unacceptable as its one of the HMRC’s suggested methods of payments.
The deadline for self-assessment returns is only 4 days away and it’s only at this point that the Revenue has added a warning to its site that you can pay a limit of up to £10,000 to the Post Office.
When contacted, the HMRC stated that taxpayers can pay by debit card, cash or cheque made payable to Post Office Ltd if you both still get paper statements from HMRC and have the paying-in slip sent by the Revenue. Of course this is in the year that the Revenue has opted to stop sending paper self-assessment reminders with a blank payslip in favour of email reminders instead.
