Work starts on £5 million listed York offices

Construction and restoration firm William Anelay Ltd has been appointed by York property and development company S Harrison Developments Ltd to a £5 million rejuvenation of a Grade II listed building in the centre of York.

S Harrison won planning approval in January to convert the disused office space on the upper floors of Hunter House in Goodramgate to create 14 new apartments for sale.

S Harrison director David Clancy said: “Hunter House is an important building in the heart of the city. Our new design respects the heritage of the building and involves only minimal alterations to the exterior.

“Inside we are minimising any alterations to the existing fabric whilst creating a range of stylish and individual apartments.

“It was really important to us to appoint a delivery partner who understood the sensitivity of the location and had a first class track record in the city. William Anelay has an excellent reputation and we are pleased to entrust them with the challenge.”

Says William Anelay’s chairman, Charles Anelay: “We’re delighted to be working with S Harrison at Hunter House. It is exactly the kind of project on which we excel.

“Its city centre location, with its restricted access, brings its own challenges but we have built our reputation on a combination of technical expertise, sensitivity to heritage and a considerate approach to neighbours during construction.

“Together, we will sympathetically and sensitively give this important building a new lease of life.”

Work began this week on site and is expected to be completed during 2015. The apartments are being marketed by York agent Hudson Moody.
