Newcastle digital technology specialists Ground Six invest in unique fitness comparison website
Newcastle-based digital technology specialists Ground Six have invested in fast growing fitness comparison site, Compare Fitness World.
Compare Fitness World, originally named OffPeek, is the brainchild of NHS professional Adam McGill, who became aware of a gap in the market for a platform allowing customers to compare deals at their local gyms, fitness classes, bootcamps and PT’s.
After visiting several fitness exhibitions to conduct market research, Adam experienced an overwhelming response from the online fitness community, inspiring him to start work on a prototype website to begin the testing and customer discovery phases.
In December 2014, technology investment company, Ground Six, made a combined sweat equity and cash investment in Compare Fitness World, sparking the site’s ongoing rebrand and rebuild.
After celebrating its first sale in February, Compare Fitness World is continuing to gain interest from the UK fitness community.
The collaboration is a win for the region business in particular, with Ground Six gaining feedback from early adopter companies based in the North East.
Ground Six is hoping to enable Compare Fitness World to take advantage of the growing fitness technology market. Currently, around 4.4 million British adults belong to gyms or leisure centres, while gym users are 26% more likely than the average British adult to keep up with developments in technology, according to Kantar Media TGI’s Clickstream study.
Sarah Callendar, co-founder of Ground Six, said: “The fitness industry is booming and consumers are keen to save both time and money when finding a gym or PT that suits them.
“Compare Fitness World allows consumers to compare the prices of gyms, classes, bootcamps and PT’s, offering them flexible and affordable fitness solution.”
Martin Stanley, co-founder of Ground Six, explained: “This was a concept that excited us immediately, particularly given the research Adam had already put into the market and the feedback he received.
“We’re already seeing the power of the platform in being able to meet the needs of both businesses and consumers in the fitness industry, which is very exciting at such an early stage.”
Compare Fitness World founder, Adam McGill, commented: “Compare Fitness World gives fitness fans the chance to try out different gyms without the hassle of long term contracts, which is perfect for business professionals on-the-go.
“In addition, consumers can compare PT’s, bootcamps and fitness classes at discounted prices, giving them no excuse to try something new.”
