NUFC 'Show Racism the Red Card'

FIFPro and Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) are working together to make the anti-racism message accessible to people from all over the world. The International Players’ Union, FIFPro has produced the campaign’s red cards in 30 different languages.

As a campaign which has its headquarters in North East England it was fitting that the first team to try out the new cards was Newcastle United FC. A gallery of images from the photoshoot with the Newcastle United first team squad can be viewed here.

Tony Higgins, FIFPro’s anti-racism spokesperson said, “The cosmopolitan nature of football is clearly illustrated in the composition of the playing staff of Newcastle United. Eighteen nationalities pulling together in a team effort, irrespective of race, colour or creed with one goal in mind; success on the park.

“Football can show the world that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. Recent events in world football and society show that a lot of work has still to be done, that’s why FIFPro support Show Racism the Red Card”

Ged Grebby, SRtRC Chief Executive said “Building on our long-standing relationship with the PFA and PFA Scotland we are now embarking on an exciting programme of producing cards in 30 different languages. “This will enable us alongside the international players union FIFPro to have more international impact. Recent examples of racism in the game towards Christopher Samba, Hulk, Virgil Van Dyke and Shay Logan have shown that racism has no borders. Taking the fight against racism internationally is something we are looking forward to.”
