Recruitment drive underway at regenerated Middlesbrough hotel
A recruitment drive led by newly appointed General Manager Mark Winter is now under way to fill 14 positions at the new Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough, located within the former Cook and Endeavour House.
Assisted by Middlesbrough Council, property developer Ashall Projects is undertaking a £12.4m project to regenerate the Albert Road property, transforming it into a new 138-bedroom hotel, which is set to become a destination for sleeping, eating, drinking and socialising in the heart of the city.
The UK’s largest independent hotel management company, Redefine|BDL Hotels, which currently manages 70 properties across the UK, will operate the hotel and is responsible for hiring the brand new hotel team.
The hotel, bar and restaurant will create a mixture of positions ahead of the scheduled opening in August, including roles in the front of house, housekeeping, waiting and maintenance teams.
With applications now being accepted, the hotel will host a recruitment fair in partnership with Middlesbrough Council next month for those interested in joining the team.
The recruitment open day will take place on Thursday, 11 June in Middlesbrough Town Hall and looks set to attract a number of locals looking for new opportunities in the hospitality industry. The event will give potential applicants a chance to find out more about the roles available and to meet the new general manager.
Mark Winter, General Manager of Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough, said: “We’re on the hunt for the best individuals Middlesbrough has to offer as we gear up to open an internationally-branded hotel, which we hope will compete with the best venues in the city.
“We’re looking for lots of people to fill a variety of positions, from individuals with little or no experience looking to kick-start their careers, to more experienced professionals with the drive to help us build a hotel that guests and local residents alike will love.
“The recruitment drive for Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough marks the next stage in what has been an extremely successful regeneration led by Ashall Projects and the local council. I’m looking forward to finding a new and exciting team that will help take this project into its final phase as we march closer to the official opening in August.”
Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “This important development will provide a real boost to the local economy as the latest addition to Centre Square and the wider town centre.
“It’s a real demonstration of confidence in Middlesbrough as a leisure and business destination and symbolises the ambition we have for the future.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for people to get started in a new career or move on to the next level, and I hope as many people as possible attend next month’s recruitment fair.”
