Sutcliffe Construction to build £2m HQ complex for Green-tech
Sutcliffe Construction, a Skipton-based construction company, has won a £2m contract to redevelop a 10-acre brownfield site for award-winning landscape and forestry supplier, Green-tech Ltd.
Set for completion in November 2015, the multi-use complex will house Green-tech’s £10m business, 40 staff and a showcase for its 6,000 plus product range.
Known as Rabbit Hill Park, located between junctions 47 and 48 off the A1, the development is being part-funded by a £200k grant from the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership’s Business Grant Programme.
The project, designed by Lawrence Hannah architects, utilises all of the site’s space for a business that features a vast number of product lines, featuring rural supplies, grounds maintenance equipment, soils, wildflower seeds and the latest additions which includes a range of ecological products.
To construct the development, existing buildings will need to be demolished to make space for seven new buildings - a head-office for Green-tech, three warehouses, a single-storey office for rental and retail units and materials from single skin cladding to cedar cladding for the HQ and traditional masonry for the offices.
Sutcliffe is also creating an environmentally-friendly soakaway system including drainage ponds, and will hand over the HQ to Green-tech in September and finish the complex in November.
James Sutcliffe, managing director, Sutcliffe Construction, said: “Green-tech is a fast-growing company with ambitious plans and a big supporter of like-minded Yorkshire companies.
“We’re delighted to be working with the Green-tech team who are experienced in the construction sector and passionate about the landscape environment. This well-planned development gives Sutcliffe an opportunity to demonstrate a range of construction expertise from steel-fabrication to traditional masonry and ecological elements such as soakaway ponds - all on one 10-acre site.”
Rachel Kay, managing director, Green-tech Ltd, added: “Green-tech is a progressive business and we are growing at an exceptional pace, with new product developments and bolt-on acquisitions within our pipeline of future work. This new purpose build will give us the capacity to increase our output and staff numbers once again as well as becoming a valued asset in the local area. As a Yorkshire-based business, locally sourced equipment, consumables and expertise is a principle that runs through the core of Green-tech. Sutcliffe Construction is a natural fit for the project and our business as a whole.”
