Business boost for popular Stokesley restaurant

One of Hambleton’s most popular restaurants has unveiled its new look following substantial investment.

Family-run Chapter’s Deli on Stokesley High Street has recently undergone a transformation as it marks over 15 years in business.

The venue has invested in a new website and new seating and has also taken on new staff, including manager, Jake Taylor. Jake is a familiar face in the area having worked at a number of pubs and restaurants over the last ten years.

To mark the re-launch of ‘the Deli’ as it is known, guests were invited to try the new menu and sample the new wine list, as well as summer cocktails including Pimms, Mojitos, Cosmopolitans, Martinis and Champagne cocktails.

The event also raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, selected as it is a chosen charity as it is supported by another local business, Morgan Hair, Nail Bar and Spa, as Claire Grey-Walker, the business owner and regular at the Deli, has first hand experience of the disease as her mother is a sufferer and her father her full time carer.

Chapter’s Deli has a number of longstanding staff including chef, John Carpenter, who has worked at the restaurant for many years. John and his team of three chefs, including his own son, Brad, have developed a new menu featuring a range of dishes, including the ‘Deli Bombe’- a sharing, chocolate dessert, as well as familiar favourites including homemade pizzas, fresh fish and grill dishes and the ‘Deli Burger’, which is made using special, closely guarded ingredients.

The shareholders of P C Richardson and Co took over the running of Chapter’s Deli in 2009. Speaking about the re-launch of Chapter’s Deli following the investment, one of the owners, Jane Ablett said: “This marks a significant milestone for ‘the Deli’, as we’re known, and the launch night was a great chance for customers to try our new dishes and wine. We’re very fortunate to have so many loyal customers who have supported us for many years and their feedback on the night was fantastic.

“The time was right for us as a family to re-invest in the business as it continues to go from strength to strength. However, it’s a tough market and Stokesley has a number of good restaurants. Hence, we have created something a little bit different to appeal to a variety of palates, such as gluten-free and low-calories options, as well as our regular menu offering home-cooked food from breakfast through to dinner.”

The Deli’s building itself dates back to the late 1500s and was known as the Shambles. The building was open on all sides and the roof was supported by the cast iron pillars which are still evident today. Each area of the building was a different stall selling produce such as butter and meat with the rent costing 20 shillings a year.

Chapter’s Deli is open throughout the week for breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, homemade cakes and scones, lunch and dinner, cocktail happy hours and Sunday lunch.

The Deli is one of Stokesley and the surrounding area’s most popular bars and restaurants, highly regarded for its home-cooked food and live music events, including Motown and Northern Soul nights and showcases for local musicians and comedians.
