Hornby to ‘strengthen business model’ with new logistics partnership

Hornby, the models and collectibles manufacturer, has partnered with parcel delivery company DPD, in an attempt to ‘enhance its supply chain’.

The Sandwich-based company, which recently moved its operations out of Margate after 61 years, has appointed DPD as its main UK delivery service.

This partnership will in turn lead to the development of train station parcel collection through specialist, Doddle.

In addition to its traditional delivery service, DPD recently launched its new ‘Pickup’ initiative, which will give consumers the opportunity to pick up their online orders from a range of retail locations across the UK.

Hornby has also confirmed stage one roll out of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Microsoft Dynamics AX) to upgrade its IT platform. This will improve its data capabilities across sales, logistics and finance.

Richard Ames, Hornby Chief Executive, said: “The delivery of these projects will strengthen our business model and ultimately benefit our customers. DPD runs an award-winning delivery service and with Doddle as a partner enthusiasts will have the convenience of being able to collect their model train purchases from a major train station near them.

“I am very pleased that the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics AX, our new ERP IT system, has gone ahead as planned this summer.

“It is the result of significant investment and hard work. It will enable us to improve our planning and stock management processes in the UK considerably. Once it is rolled out to the wider group, then we can really start to unlock cost savings and efficiencies across our business.”
