ICL Europe restructuring plans to affect Cleveland and Teesdock operations

ICL Europe, part of the global ICL speciality minerals company, has announced plans for restructuring its business operations which will affect its North East operations in Cleveland and Teesport.

The restructure will reportedly see ICL separate its mining and production activities from sales, marketing and distribution services.

Under the restructuring 49 posts across a range of activities at ICL U, both at Cleveland Potash’s Boulby mine and the Teesdock distribution operation, will transfer to ICL Iberia Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cleveland Potash Limited.

Announcing the restructuring, David Zvida, Managing Director and General Manager at ICL UK, stressed that it was not envisaged that there would be any changes to employment arrangements, with the transfer, planned for October, taking place under TUPE (Transfer of Undertaking Protection of Employment) regulations.

He explained: “We benefit greatly from being an integral part of the ICL global organisation, for example in terms of the huge investment we are making to become the world’s first producer of polysulphate fertiliser, technological innovation and, of course, access to global markets.

“The establishment of the ICL Iberia Marketing and Sales Unit, with ICL-UK concentrating on mining and production, will provide a clearer focus as we drive forward and is an important element in driving forward our programme aimed at improving the productivity and competiveness of the Boulby mine.”
