Office Removal and Relocation Tips for the Owner and Employer

Wouldn’t corporate moves be easier if there were ‘offices with legs’? Or even a Hercules who can single-handedly convey the entire load? If only our workplaces could move about on their own and settle down anywhere we desire!

Alas! It doesn’t happen that way. Neither is it a fairytale predicament with an unbelievably magically resolution. There’s a lot of time, money and sweat spent. It’s more hectic than a domestic move, and scarier than you can imagine. And, if you thought you can do it without hiring a removal company, well, better forget it.

You need to PLAN for this attempt, and your plan should commence way before the move is scheduled. You have to prepare your employees and pack your corporate bags accordingly. Into the bargain, you have to make sure that the move runs without disrupting business productivity or the efficiency and calmness of the employees.

The kickoff should begin with the following steps for Relocation:

  • Research: You have to select from a range of companies and ask them to provide you an estimate for the move. Make sure that they visit the present and future office premises before offering the estimate. Also, don’t hesitate to rely on references.
  • Decide the date: Your date of move should be such that it does not coincide with the working days of your company. Saturdays and Sundays are most feasible to avoid interruption of operations.
  • Design a floor plan: How would you arrange your stuff in the new office? How would you fit the desks, chairs, and other equipments and manage space? Decide on this in advance to keep hassles at arm’s length.

Your duties on the D-day:

  • Provide instructions: Because you have decided to choose a relocation service, it is likely that you will be away from much of the core logistics and reposition tasks. Still, on the day of the move, you must instruct the staff about the work you expect them to handle.
  • Be a responsible employer: Also, if you have chosen to carry out the move on a working day, you must make sure to declare a day off for the employees. A shifting station is a hazardous place. You have to care about the safety of your employees, too.
  • Care for your stuff: Take a note of all the electrical wiring, and see if they have been organised properly. Every filing cabinet should be emptied before the move begins. On some occasions, cabinets may be moved full. Make sure that they are securely taped before moving. Also, extra precautions should be taken for confidential documents.
  • Label them: It is needed because it eases the move. Once in your new office, you will be able to identify the things without inconvenience, and know which thing to put where, straight from the label.

And, finally:

You’re almost done! You just need to arrange everything in your new workstation, send out notifications to stakeholders about the change of office address, sit back and sip coffee with your staff, and celebrate this fresh beginning. Hearty congratulations to you!
