Chelsea Stamford Bridge expansion makes major developments
Chelsea’s plans to significantly expand Stamford Bridge will be moved forward next week during an exhibition hosted by the club.
The current Premier league champions are aiming to revamp its home ground by increasing the capacity from 41,663 to approximately 60,000.
The extensive construction work will take three years to complete, and Chelsea is close to securing a deal that will allow the club to play home games at Wembley during this period.
As reported ingetwestlondon, the FA have already agreed to the terms of the move, and now the deal only needs the Premier League’s consent.
Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have been commissioned by owner Roman Abramovich to transform the stadium into a £500m “cathedral of sport”.
Back in June, Chelsea revealed the proposed plans for the Bridge expansion when fans and people living next to the ground in Fulham were shown drawings during a consultation.
Feedback about the plans will be showcased at next week’s exhibition, where further information on the expansion proposals will also be released.
No building work will be able to take place until the club obtains planning permission and consent from the Chelsea pitch Owners, who own the freehold of the site, with an estimated start date of May 2017.
